Not for the faint of heart but not for all IT people either. I can’t remember the day where I’ve relied on a simple “home router”. I’m all about the VLANs to separate my roommates from my precious traffic. Alright, let’s be real. I’m a nerd at heart. I am not a gamer (contrary to I guess most IT folks?). I find pleasure in testing out software, hardware, and networking things together. It’s important to have a solid system backing those pleasures. Plus, trying to get what I want out of an XFinity all-in-one is just never going to happen. Funny thing was the day I switched from their gear to a TP-Link bridge, nothing went down. Ever. No weekly restarts. And PfSense? Until your batteries run out of juice in a power failure, it won’t give out either.
